Raising the qualifications of those who look after the patients is
possible thanks to the EU funds - the partnership program CF TRUST. MATIO - Foundation for Help Cystic Fibrosis Sufferers and their Families ( Polish CF Foundation MATIO) was established almost 13 years ago to provide broad support during the treatment and rehabilitation of sick, to support research and activities to improve the treatment of Polish patients, as well as carrying out awareness activities and education of Polish society. The main activities of the MATIO Foundation are for example: financial help for the patients, psychological assistance, workshops, publishing - "Journal - Cystic Fibrosis MATIO" which comes out quarterly and is addressed to patients and doctors, National Polish Cystic Fibrosis Week ( social campaign) organized annually for over eight years. To be able to work more effectively for the benefit of the patients, the Foundation has decided to cooperate with state institutions, local governments, medical and scientific communities and NGOs from all over the world including Poland. This organization is the Cystic Fibrosis Association (CF Trust) from the United Kingdom, the partner organization of MATIO Foundation. With the availability of funds from the European Union in 2004 MATIO - Poland was the first polish non-governmental organization - in cooperation with the CF TRUST project to make the EU Leonardo Da Vinci "Common help for patients suffer for cystic fibrosis in Europe". This program involved a 9 week training period for the social workers and physiotherapist at the headquarters of CF TRUST. Seniority effects are among others. increase the professionalism and qualifications of participants and the ability to observe the standards of modern labor organizations in support of patients with CF. These experiences and cooperation with the CF Trust had a significant impact on improving the quality of subsequent editions of the National Week for public campaign of cystic fibrosis. Professionalisation MATIO's activities of the organization and better developed campaign were reflected in achievements such as environmental, refunds of certain medications, start in 2007 detecting CF among newborns and increasing Polish public awareness about the disease (SMG / KRC: 2001 - 13% of those who know the term "cystic fibrosis" to 2008 - 58% of well informed citizens). In the framework of the EU's next - Leonardo Da Vinci - MATIO organized in 2008, foreign practice "Common knowledge, experience standards allow upgrading the skills and expertise" for the Polish health care workers. The purpose of this internship was to increase the skills, knowledge, exchange experience and running standards in the UK National Health Service care for the sick with cystic fibrosis. Traineeship participants were middle-level employees of health care, who rarely participate in conferences and scientific training. In-service training was running by 12 people - nurses and physiotherapist from eight Polish hospitals and six provinces. Practice participants were divided into three 4-person group, each of them held a three-week training in three different centers involved in caring for the sick with CF. The internship in Great Britain was preceded by a linguistic, cultural, and pedagogical arrangement. Training was taking place on the cistic fibrosis branches treatment in hospitals cooperating with the UK CF TRUST. Trainees were under the watchful eye of British professionals in the pediatric centers, and center for adult patients who are calibrating the European examples of the comprehensive care for the sick with cistic fibrosis - in the University Hospital in Cardiff, University Hospital in Leeds, at the Royal Brompton Hospital in London . An important part of the stay was to get familiar with the principles of British aid and outpatient care at home and the workplace with CF Team. The need to organize this kind of visits to foreign facilities is due to the Foundation's deep belief that the best results in the treatment of a patient's overall care for the patient to cystic fibrosis. It is the Foundation's purpose and desire in its activities. Efficient co-CF Team, which is a team of specialists caring for the sick (among others: the doctors of various specialties, nurses, therapists, physiotherapists), equipped with modern rehabilitation equipment what is unattainable standard in Polish conditions. There is still very much to be done, but thanks to these programs appears a chance that with increasing awareness the quality of treatment will change. The effects of this project is at the moment undoubtedly increase the personal qualifications of participants, the new knowledge of the British standards of treatment, the increase in language skills and care for the patient the possibility of further sharing of gained experiences. The Leonardo Da Vinci is not only the same length and its implementation, is also to promote its effects. During the 31-st World Conference CF Worldwide MATIO Foundation presented a lecture on the mobilization of funds from EU and the role of Leonardo Da Vinci project as an opportunity to help the CF environment. Another possibility to promote the project and its effects was also the International Conference V4 CF "Better? Why not? together we can more. " The conference was organized by the organizations of the Visegrad Countries. Brought together over 100 participants (doctors, scientists and representatives of patient organizations) from 16 countries from Central-East Europe. In conclusion, it should be noted that the EU projects and internships not only affect the qualifications and skills of participants but also improving standards of treatment of patients and work of Polish specialists and a more professional organization related to the functioning of cystic fibrosis. |
